Privacy Policy

This page explains what data the Talk+ app (called Fala+ in Portuguese) collects, what it is for, and how you can contact us about it. We wrote it to be read by a parent, a carer or a therapist β€” not only by a lawyer.

01 Who we are

Talk+ is developed and maintained by Paulo Couto, based in Portugal. For any question about privacy or personal data, contact apoio@falamais.pt.

02 What data we collect

Talk+ works without an account. Creating an account (Adult Area β†’ Account and Backup) is always optional and is meant to keep your progress and your customised Communicate board if you change device.

If you do not create an accountIf you create an account (Account and Backup)
Nothing is sent to our servers. All progress and customisation stays on the device only. Through Google, Microsoft or email/password (Firebase Authentication), we store your email, name and profile photo (if the sign-in provider supplies them) to identify the account. For each child profile we also sync: name, date of birth, communication stage, level, completed steps, unlocks, stars and mascot items earned, rewards/medals and usage time, plus the learning history and the adult's preferences described below.

Communicate board: if you have an account, the photos, voice recordings and custom cards/words you add specifically to the Communicate board (Communicate menu) are also synced with your account, so you have them if you change device. They only exist if an adult creates them.

Voice recordings (Voice menu): if you have an account, the recordings an adult makes of their own voice saying words, and the setting that lets each one be used in games, are also stored in your account so you can get them back if you change device or sign out. They only exist if an adult records them.

Learning history: if you have an account, for each profile we store the words and activities the child worked on (day, game or activity, word, language, result and count), the words that were shown, best times and the stars ledger. It is used to restore the path and for the weekly report. It does not include the child's name and contains no photos or recordings.

Adult preferences: if you have an account, for each profile we store the app settings (for example voice speed and source, sensory mode, Communicate board options, favourites, hidden icons and tutorials already seen). The Adult Area PIN, the language and the volume are not sent.

03 Data that always stays on the device

This data is never sent to our servers, even with an account:

If you uninstall the app, or use "Reset" in the Adult Area, this data is permanently erased from the device and no copy exists on any of our servers. If you have an account, "Sign out" first saves everything that is synced to the account and only then erases the data from the device; when you sign in again you get back what was saved.

04 Children and the Adult Area

Talk+ is designed to be used by children with an adult nearby. We do not ask the child directly for any personal data β€” the name and date of birth of each profile are entered by the responsible adult, and are only used to adapt the app to the child's age and communication stage on the device itself.

All sensitive actions (creating an account, managing profiles, buying a subscription, changing settings) live inside an area protected by a PIN created by the adult (the "Adult Area"), precisely so that only an adult can carry them out.

05 Third-party services

We use Firebase (Google) for account authentication and to sync what is described in section 2, when the user chooses to create an account. See Google's Privacy Policy to learn how Google handles that data as the provider of this service.

The app also has an optional usage statistics (Firebase Analytics) setting, off by default β€” it is only turned on if you switch it on manually in Adult Area β†’ Account and Backup. When on, it sends screens visited, menu/game choices and session length; it never sends photos, voice recordings, or the child's name or communication stage.

We do not integrate any advertising network or any third-party SDK for advertising purposes, and we do not share data with anyone for marketing.

06 Advertising and tracking

Talk+ shows no advertising on any plan β€” free or paid. This is a deliberate product decision: we never want to put a child in a situation of accidentally tapping an ad.

07 Purchases and subscriptions

Talk+ offers an optional subscription (Talk+ Premium) that unlocks additional content. Purchases are processed entirely by Google Play Billing β€” we do not receive or store your card or payment method details; that stays between you and Google. The subscription is monthly, renews automatically, and can be cancelled at any time on Google Play. So that Premium is tied to your account, we send Google Play an obfuscated identifier of the Talk+ account; Premium is only active with the Google account that made the purchase and stops being active on the device when you sign out (it returns when you sign in with that account). The app stores, on the device, the information that the subscription is active.

08 Security

Synced account data is stored through Firebase infrastructure (Google Cloud), with that service's standard protections. Data stored only on the device (for example the PIN and personalisation photos outside the Communicate board) depends on the security of the device itself β€” we recommend keeping your phone/tablet protected with a PIN or biometrics.

09 Your rights

If you created an account, you have the right to access, correct or delete your data at any time, and to withdraw your consent to syncing. To exercise any of these rights, contact us at apoio@falamais.pt β€” we reply as quickly as possible.

10 How to delete your data β€” Talk+

These steps apply to the Talk+ app, by Paulo Couto.

  1. Delete a child profile (and everything that belongs to it, including photos, voices and custom cards stored on the device): open Talk+ β†’ Adult Area β†’ Profiles β†’ tap the delete icon next to the profile β†’ confirm. Effect: immediate and permanent on the device. If you are signed in, the profile is also deleted from your account (profile data, progress, learning history, voice recordings and that profile's Communicate board). If you are offline, the request is kept and completed as soon as you are online, so please do not uninstall the app before then.
  2. Delete only a profile's progress, keeping the name and date of birth: Adult Area β†’ Profiles β†’ "Reset Profile" β†’ confirm. Effect: immediate and permanent β€” erases stars, medals, mascots, learning history and the progress synced to the cloud (if there is an account). The name, date of birth, the adaptations chosen by the adult, voice recordings and Comunicar cards are kept; to erase those too, use "Delete a child profile" above or "Reset cards" in the Comunicar editor.
  3. Delete the account and all cloud data (email, progress, learning history, preferences, voice recordings and Communicate board customisation synced to Firebase): Adult Area β†’ Account and Backup β†’ "Delete account and data" β†’ confirm your identity (password or a new Google sign-in) β†’ "Yes, delete everything". If you no longer have access to the app, send a request to apoio@falamais.pt from the email of the account to delete. Effect: in the app, deletion is immediate β€” we delete the email, the account identifier, the synced progress, the learning history, the preferences, the voice recordings and the photos/voices/cards of the Communicate board stored in Firebase, and the data on that device too. By email, we do the same within 30 days of the request. Personalisation photos outside the Communicate board never left the device, so they never exist on our servers at any point.
